DIRECTOR OF THE CARTHAGE FUND

Join the team at our beautiful lakefront campus!

JOB SUMMARY:

Carthage College seeks a Director of the Carthage Fund to take responsibility for the strategic execution and management of The Carthage Fund, a comprehensive, integrated, annual fund program. The Director employs a data-driven approach to plan and execute an annual program that results in ever-increasing sustainable financial support for Carthage College, increased alumni donations, and volunteer involvement. An expert in strategic communications, the Director oversees all broad-based fund raising outreach including email, direct mail, phone, and social media, which support programs such as Giving Day and crowdfunding. The Director will maintain a portfolio of 25 to 35 leadership annual giving prospects. The Director oversees the Leadership Annual Giving Officer.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop a coordinated matrix of communication and solicitation strategies involving email, direct mail, phone/mail, personal visitation, and volunteer engagement, all focused on shaping a sustainable tradition of annual support. The matrix includes all market segments identified as having potential for the greatest growth (alumni, parents, and friends), which complement one another and integrate with alumni engagement messages and events.
  • Using the matrix, execute a year-long fund raising plan; determine the audience for each solicitation; create and write appropriate and effective fund raising messages; deliver the solicitation in a timely manner through the appropriate channel (email, mail, phone call).
  • Provide direction to the Leadership Annual Giving Officer in the development and implementation of a strategic plan for the leadership annual giving program; make 25-35 face-to-face calls on prospects identified for solicitation under this program.
  • Manage the planning and logistics of Carthage Giving Day, a cross-campus, one-day giving challenge.
  • Integrate the Student Call Center in the strategic plan; work in partnership with the Leadership Annual Giving Officer, who manages the operations of the Center, to ensure its successful operation.
  • Manage the planning, logistics, and execution of crowdfunding efforts across all departments and divisions of the College.
  • Analyze complex data sets concerning constituent populations, giving levels, trends, and gift frequency. Summarize and present data in a clear and compelling manner verbally and in writing, and use this information to generate and execute new, effective solicitation strategies.
  • Work closely with gift officers to offer programmatic support, provide information, and include prospects in solicitations and volunteer opportunities.
  • Direct a team consisting of a Leadership Annual Giving Officer and three or four student interns.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Requires education generally equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Requires 2 to 3 years of fundraising experience or 3-5 years related experience, such as management, business, or marketing.
  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with potential donors, college administrators, and faculty members.
  • Requires the ability to use a personal computer, Web browser, and Microsoft Office Suite particularly Microsoft Excel. Experience with a fundraising database, digital marketing, and crowdfunding preferred.
  • Requires knowledge of and the ability to use a variety of standard office equipment such as a telephone, computer keyboard, and a photo copier/printer/scanner.
  • Requires the ability to travel occasionally to complete college business.

HOW TO APPLY:

Applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, contact information for three professional references, and any supporting documents through the "resume upload" section. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
