Graphic Designer

Job Summary:

Carthage College invites applications for an exciting opportunity to assist in the development and execution of Carthage College's visual identity and support long-term communications objectives that advance the positive image and reputation of the College. The Graphic Designer will assist in establishing and reinforcing Carthage branding and identity standards to ensure a creative, yet consistent, look and feel that adheres to and supports the Carthage brand, visual identity, and messaging.  Desired start date is July 2, 2018.

Description of Essential Duties:

  1. Responsible for maintaining and integrating graphic and brand standards across traditional, alternative, and online channels
  2. Participate in the planning and development of the College's central communications efforts, collateral materials, and creative services activities from development to completion
  3. Ensure timely completion of all assigned tasks, as well as efficiency/effectiveness in overall creative services operations
  4. Design key institutional materials including posters, exhibits, advertisements, presentations, brochures, newsletters, flyers and web elements
  5. Design in print or digital formats, using current production techniques, including up-to-date computer graphic systems, software, photos and fonts, for clients or projects as assigned
  6. Ensure the quality of communications messages and products produced by the Office of Communications for a wide range of audiences, including prospective students and families, faculty, staff, alumni, donors and the general public
  7. Maintain and improve upon the Carthage Style Guide, ensuring consistency and usability
  8. Perform photography and photo editing as required
  9. Manage and coach student designers to effectively evaluate work requests and set expectations of high quality work for mid-to-low level projects
  10. Create and distribute approved templates for use in the campus community
  11. Design and layout features and pages as needed for The Carthaginian publication

Minimum Education and Experience Required:  

  • Bachelor's degree in related field 
  • Minimum 1-2 years of design experience 
  • Experience with up-to-date computer graphic systems and software 
  • Photography and photo editing experience 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Strong organizational skills are required, particularly planning, managing deadlines, and evaluating project progress
  • Demonstrated ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage constructively with diverse cultures or backgrounds
