Job Summary:

The Department of Modern Languages at Carthage College invites applications for two adjunct positions in Spanish. The two positions each involve teaching three sections of elementary Spanish during the fall semester only. Sections meet three days a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) for 65 minutes each day. Fall semester classes begin on September 5, 2018 and run through December 14, 2018 (with Fall Break on October 29 and Thanksgiving Break from November 21-23). Instructors must also hold two office hours per week. The courses use the text, Ritmos, including the online tools. Instructors will be provided with all necessary materials. Pay for each of these two positions is $11,000 for the semester.

These positions offer emerging scholars an opportunity to gain valuable teaching experience in a small college setting, including the chance to collaborate with other Instructors and receive feedback on their teaching from faculty members in the Department of Modern Languages. The Department will also offer support for the Instructors in the form of an orientation session in late August. In addition, Instructors will meet occasionally with a Course Supervisor from the Department to review course plans, discuss materials, and review issues that may arise.

Minimum Education and Experience Required:

Applicants should have a Master's degree or above, experience teaching Spanish (at the college level or equivalent), and near native or native fluency in Spanish.

How to Apply:

Please submit a letter of interest, a current curriculum vitae, and the names of 1-2 teaching references to Prof. Gregory Baer, Chair of the Modern Languages Department, at gbaer@carthage.edu. Applications will be accepted until positions are filled. Apply soon for best consideration using the link below and submit all materials through the "Resume Upload" section.
