Computer and Media Support Technician

Job Summary:

The Library and Information Services Department at Carthage College is seeking a Computer and Media Support Technician. Under the direction of the Manager of Media and Learning Services, the Computer and Media Support Technician oversees the technology support and maintenance of computer labs and public computers across campus. The Computer and Media Support Technician interacts professionally with a diverse group of individuals across the college campus, including technical and non-technical staff, faculty and students.

Main Job Responsibilities:

  • Regularly inspect and test computer labs and public computers
  • Support faculty and staff in the use of computer labs and public computers
  • Maintain public and lab computer hardware and software
  • Provide tools, training, and oversight for student workers who assist with computer labs and public computers
  • In conjunction with the Client Technology and Software Specialist, oversee the use of various technologies to remotely manage and support computer labs and public computers
  • Assist with the support of faculty and staff desktop and portable technology, including iOS and macOS devices
  • Make recommendations for hardware purchases and software deployments
  • Assist with media events and activities as needed
  • Assist with classroom technology and computer support as needed

Minimum Education and Experience Required:

  • Associate's degree required, Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Two years experience maintaining and troubleshooting computer hardware and software

Required skills, abilities and/or Licensure:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with employees, students, and faculty members
  • Ability to use standard campus technology tools, including Google applications
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of personal computer systems and peripherals, including installation in networked environments
  • Experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and upgrading computer hardware and software, including Apple products, MacOS, and iOS
  • Requires computer, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience imaging groups of computers, and with computer imaging tools or platforms
  • Working knowledge of networking concepts and troubleshooting basic network problems
  • Experience in customer support of persons at all levels of an organization
  • Familiarity with issue tracking systems
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to share knowledge with and train student workers
  • Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision
